Great Croton / Codiaeum
Codiaeum or Croton is a gorgeous, bright plant. Very elegant, valued for its large colorful leaves. This plant, which requires some attention and care, does not tolerate watering with cold water and drafts.
The plant is ideal for winter gardens and rooms with high air humidity.
Tips for caring for Codiaum (Croton):
Temperature: Heat-loving, in winter the temperature is about 16-18 °C, minimum 16 °C
Lighting: The light-loving plant Croton requires a lot of sunlight to maintain the multi-colored color of its leaves, but it is gradually accustomed to the spring sun. In summer, during the daytime, the plant is shaded to avoid burns. The ideal place is an east or west window.
Watering: Abundant from spring to autumn, the soil should dry out between waterings. In winter, watering is moderate. It does not tolerate the dryness of the earthen clod well, and can shed almost all its leaves, although excessive soil dampness is also not desirable. Use soft water at room temperature. To prevent water from stagnating at the bottom of the pot, provide good drainage.
Fertilizer: From April to August, feed with special mineral fertilizers for indoor plants, every 2 weeks. You can use an all-purpose fertilizer.
Humidity: Loves humid air. Codiaum is regularly sprayed and wiped with leaves. In winter, in rooms with central heating, when the indoor air is too dry, leaves may drop. But since this plant is thermophilic and in winter the temperature should not fall below 16-17°C, it can only be kept in a heated room. Place the pot on a tray with drainage 2 cm flooded with water and do not forget to spray.
Croton has its own peculiarity - at a young age, yellow and various shades of green tones predominate on its leaves; with age, pink and red spots and stripes appear.
